.Starches and foods are broken down in the mouth when you chew. The tongue mixes the food around in your mouth while moving it in with saliva and becomes like a mud and makes food easier to swallow.
.Once the food is swallowed, is migrates down the esophagus and through to the stomach by squeezing the muscles.
.When the food is in the stomach, it gets broken down further with the hydrochloric acids in your stomach. It takes 4 to 6 hours to move through the stomach and when it is done, it is a watery liquid.
.The food then travels down the small intestines when it is broken down even more by the chemical juices in the liver and pancreas. When food reaches the end of the small intestine, it becomes nutrients. The nutrients next are passed into the walls of the small intestine. The leftovers are passed to the large intestine.
.In the end, waste will travel through the large intestines where the water gets squeezed out of the wastes and passed back into the body. Then solid wastes exit your body.
